Good morning! Penn State men’s soccer may have scored four goals yesterday against Michigan, but none looked prettier than Caden Grabfelder bending it like Beckham for the match’s first goal yesterday.

What else did we throw into today’s Brew?

🔺 Statement Win. If you’re gonna score a brace, doing against a top-5 conference rival is as good a time as any! No. 16 Penn State field hockey took down No. 5 Iowa in the home finale for head coach Lisa Bervinchak Love's squad. Sophia Gladieux scored both Penn State goals in a 2-1 victory over the visiting Hawkeyes.

📅 Penn State is now 8-7 overall, and 3-4 in the B1G. They’ll wrap up their regular season schedule next Friday with a 3 p.m. game at Indiana.

🔺 Onto The Next One. No. 7/6 Penn State dropped its Big Ten road contest at No. 3/3 Ohio State (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) in Columbus this weekend.

Penn State's defense held the Ohio State offense 16 points below its season scoring average, allowing just 20 points compared to the Buckeyes' season average of 36.0. The Nittany Lions put defensive pressure on the Buckeyes all afternoon, securing a muffed punt fumble and also forcing a turnover on downs by Ohio State inside the five-yard line.

🔺 Down To The Wire. No. 4 Penn State women's soccer dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 result to the No. 21 Wisconsin Badgers yesterday at Jeffrey Field, placing the Nittany Lions as the No. 4 overall seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.

The Blue & White conclude the 2023 regular season with a 12-1-4 overall record coupled with a 6-1-3 mark against Big Ten Conference opponents. PSU accumulated 21 points over the course of the league year, good enough for a standalone fourth-place finish in the table.

📅 PSU will square off against the Indiana Hoosiers next Sunday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. on Jeffrey Field in the B1G Tournament Quarterfinals. Wisconsin climbs to 12-3-3 overall and 7-2-1 in conference play, booking a third-place finish in the conference with 22 points.

🔺 Shut ‘Em Out. It’s only fitting that Senior Day would be highlighted by seniors Femi Awodesu and Peter Mangione leading Penn State to a 4-0 shutout win over Michigan. For the second consecutive home game, the duo of seniors account for two Nittany Lions goals. A pair of freshmen bookended the two senior goals with Caden Grabfelder starting the scoring for Penn State in the first half and Morgan Marshall finding a goal in the final 10 minutes.

The Nittany Lions improve to 8-3-3 overall, 4-2-1 Big Ten while handing the Wolverines their first conference loss of the season.

⚽️ The Nittany Lions host Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. for their regular season home finale.

🔺 Split Decision. After starting their weekend with a comeback victory that included two goals in the third period, Penn State men’s ice hockey lost 6-4 to AIC.

🏒 Penn State remains home for a Thursday-Friday series against Alaska-Anchorage next week. Puck drop for both nights is slated for 7 p.m. and each game will be streamed on B1G+.

🔺 How Sweep It Is. Camryn Hannah hit .409 with 12 kills and a career-high seven blocks to lead No. 11 Penn State Women's Volleyball to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) sweep over Iowa in a Big Ten match on Friday night at Rec Hall.

The Nittany Lions upped their record to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten, while Iowa dropped to 8-13 overall and 0-9 in the conference.

🏐 Penn State will next travel to Michigan where they’ve won their last three away matchups dating back to 2017. The match starts at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+.

Kateryna Chorniy faced Yeva Mazur (Ohio State) and moved on to the gold medal match where she fenced against Montserrat Viveros (Ohio State) to win first place in women's epee.

Another first place finish came for Penn State in women's sabre as Ola Strzalkowski downed Sky Miller (Northwestern) in the gold medal match.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Eight!

When James Franklin has needed a bounce back game, Indiana has historically been just what the doctor ordered. In fact, Penn State is 24-2 all time against the Hoosiers.
