Good morning! And Happy 7/11 Day. Did you know that 168 million Slurpees are sold every year in the United States? That’s more than five every second—or about 50 by the time you get done reading this sentence.

First Things First: Congratulations are in order! Jay Harry was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft yesterday. He’s now the 78th overall player drafted out of Penn State and the 13th pick since 2016.

Here’s what else we have steeping in today’s Brew.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Professional Debut. Yesterday, we previewed Jalen Pickett, Andrew Funk, and Seth Lundy playing in the NBA Summer League. Today, we’re giving you highlights from their recent matchup.

In a 98-93 Hawks victory over the reigning champions, Seth Lundy got 16 minutes of playing time off the bench and scored eight points. Jalen Pickett earned the start (and 34 minutes of playing time) and came away with an impressive 16 points.

🔺 Big Promotion. You can tell a program is heading in the right direction when they hire from within. Last week, Alexis Gallagher was promoted to Assistant Coach for Penn State’s softball team.

Gallagher spent the last two seasons with in Happy Valley as a volunteer assistant with the team. Head Coach Clarissa Crowell knows and appreciates how important Gallagher is to the success of the program.

"Coach Lex is hardworking, knowledgeable about the game, but most importantly she is a wonderful person with high integrity. I am thankful for the opportunity to promote Coach Lex to be a full-time assistant, and I know that she will continue to be a great asset for our program."

🦁 ONE BIG THING

Lead by example. The newest head coach for Penn State baseball is already showing his Lion Pride.

Coach Mike Gambino took a tour of the campus yesterday while stopping by Medlar Field with his family and was pictured having a game of catch with one of his sons.

At Penn State, it’s all about family and tradition, and it looks like it’s something Coach Gambino already understands.

🤔 BLUE & WHITE TRIVIA

Personal Experience. As mentioned above, Alexis Gallagher was hired to be a full-time member of the Lion’s softball coaching staff. Before her days as a coach, Gallagher was a softball star in her own right.

Our question today is—what team did Alexis Gallagher play for in college?
